Voluntary tax deductions
A voluntary tax deduction means that more tax is deducted than what is shown on your tax card. It is also called extra tax deduction.
If you want extra tax deduction, you must report it.
You can register voluntary tax deduction in various ways:
If you receive old-age pension, AFP, disability benefits, or payments from the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund, you can log in to nav.no to change your tax deduction.
Pension
- Go to Your Pension.
- Select Voluntary Tax Deduction and Income Registration.
- Enter the additional deduction amount in NOK or as a percentage, and click Save.
- The change applies from the month after you have registered the deduction and lasts until the end of the year. If you register the additional deduction in December, it applies from January and lasts until the end of the year.
Disability benefits
- Go to Your Disability Benefits.
- On a PC or tablet: Select Your Profile, then Tax Deduction.
- On mobile: Select Tax Deduction from the dropdown menu.
- Enter the additional deduction amount in NOK or as a percentage, and click Save.
- The change applies from the month after you have registered the deduction and lasts until the end of the year. If you register the additional deduction in December, it applies from January and lasts until the end of the year.
If you have an adjustment allowance or child pension, you can register voluntary tax deduction by submitting a form for voluntary tax deduction.
You cannot register voluntary tax deduction for adjustment allowances or child pension in Your Pension.
For voluntary tax deduction on child pension, the parent or guardian must still report on behalf of the child until the child turns 18. After the child turns 18, the child must request voluntary tax deduction themselves
For all other payments from Nav, you can register voluntary tax deduction by submitting a form for voluntary tax deduction.
If you do not have internet access and therefore cannot print the form, you can send a letter about voluntary tax deduction to Nav. Remember to specify which payment you want extra tax deduction for..
You must also specify the desired additional deduction in NOK or percentage per month. The letter must include your name, national identification number, and signature. Send the letter to:
Nav pensjon, P.O. Box 6600 Etterstad, 0607 Oslo (for pension, disability benefits, child pension, and adjustment allowance)
Nav økonomi stønad, P.O. Box 354, 8601 Mo i Rana (for all other financial support from Nav)
When you register a voluntary tax deduction, it applies until the end of the year. The deduction also applies to holiday pay and for months where no tax is otherwise deducted. For example, there is no tax on some financial supports in December, but if you have registered a voluntary tax deduction, it will also apply for December.
If you wish to end the deduction before the end of the year, you must do so in writing.
If you receive a new payment (financial support) from Nav and want more tax deducted than what is shown on your tax card, you must report it in writing in the same way.
If you want full tax to be deducted in periods that are otherwise tax-free, you must inform us about it.
Want to change the amount?
The last registered amount is what will be deducted as voluntary tax deduction.
