As a general rule, Nav pays out to a Norwegian bank account. It is the simplest and fastest way to receive cash support from Nav.
You must check that we have the correct account number. You can check the account number we have registered for you by logging on to nav.no.
You can arrange for your Norwegian bank to make regular transfers from your Norwegian bank account to your foreign bank account.
When you are abroad, you can also withdraw money from a Norwegian account with, for example, a VISA card.
If you do not have a Norwegian bank account, payment can be made to a bank in the country of residence.
If you provide an account number in a foreign bank, please note that there is a fee for each withdrawal. It may also take a longer time for the money to be transferred to your account.
The costs of transferring to your foreign bank will then be deducted from the payment. The charge is NOK 3 to bank accounts in foreign countries.
For payment by cheque, the fee is NOK 100.
In addition, there are fees in foreign banks, and you have to pay this yourself. The fees vary from NOK 200 to 500.
We do not pay foreign checks of less than NOK 500 to avoid fees. We then wait until the total sum is greater than NOK 500.
Persons who receive payment from Nav to an account abroad can expect to receive their payment on account 1 to 2 days after the payment date to the Norwegian account.
The dates shown in the overview apply to payments to an account in Norwegian bank.
If you have not received your pension or other benefits at the right time, the problem is usually with the foreign banking system or with your foreign bank, and therefore we request that you contact your foreign bank.
You will find information about delays due to Nav on nav.no.

The pension payments, unemployment benefits and other benefits will normally be paid in the local currency of the country you live in. For some countries there are restrictions on different types of currency. Nav then pays out in Norwegian kroner, euros or US dollars (USD).
If you live abroad and are paid financial support to a foreign account, the payments from Nav may vary from month to month. This is due to changes in the exchange rate. The pension before conversion is the same.
Examples of exchange rate changes that will affect the amount you receive:

When the payment is transferred to a foreign bank account, the transfer must be “marked” with an IBAN number (or SWIFT number / BIC address). If these are missing, the transfer charges may be higher.
If you are unsure whether your bank account has an IBAN or SWIFT number / BIC address, contact your bank for clarification.
