Register as a jobseeker
Register as a jobseeker if your goal is to find work and you want to do activities, alone or together with Nav, to achieve this.
Who can register?
You have the right to register as a jobseeker if you reside legally in
Norway. Once you have registered, you are entitled to have Nav assess
your need for guidance with the aim of returning to work.
You can apply for unemployment benefits or other benefits once you have
registered as a jobseeker.

How to register
To assess what kind of services you need, we need information about
- your age
- if you have been working
- your education
- any challenges you might have
You must have an electronic ID to register. You can log in using Bank ID,
Buypass or Commifides.
How to obtain an electronic ID
In ID-porten, you can obtain an electronic ID. You can choose between BankId, Buypass eller Commfides.
Register at a Nav office
If you are not able to obtain an electronic ID, you have to register at your local Nav office.
You can find a Nav office using a post code or town/city.
When you are registered as a jobseeker
We will evaluate the information you have given us against the
information we have about other jobseekers who are in a similar situation
as you. Based on this, automatic suggestions are compiled about which
services we think may suit you. A Nav counsellor will review these
suggestions and send you a decision.
If changes occur that mean the information you have given us is no longer
correct, please contact us online at nav.no. We will then re-assess your
need for services.
If you disagree with Nav's assessment of the need for follow-up, you can
respond to us by logging on to nav.no.
Everyone registered as a jobseeker with Nav must confirm that they still want to stay registered every 14 days. Learn how how to submit the confirmation here.
